E.D.I.
E.D.I.
(Error Driver Interface)
FOR THE MONITORING OF WRONG CARTONS
Complete hardware functioning definition.

This unit is provided with an electronic circuit for the automatic recovery of the folder gluer speed changes and with the necessary power module to pilot an Ejector or a Pneumatic Kicker. It is designed to handle wrong cartons signalled by any control unit equipped with shift registration (Code Guard, MMS-GD, EGC-C) as well as, through its own (single) memory card, wrong cartons signalled by an equipment not provided with ejection memory (either a Glue Guard or a Cello Guard). The E.D.I. is also predisposed for the use of a second encoder (machines speed detector) when the last section of the folder gluer is equipped with a different motorization.

CHARACTERISTICS

Operating speed Up to 600 metres/minute (belt speed)

Encoder resolution 0,1 mm. The machine speed detector generates 1000 impulses/turn/channel over the radial development of 200 mm (200/1000 on 2 channels = 0,1 mm)

Signalling LEDs On front panel: power ON, encoder functioning, ejector power module circuit integral (fuse not burned), transfer of error signal (from control equipment to EDI), missed ejection (associated to machine stop).

Error handling device adjustment The time permanence, of the ejector wheel on carton to eject, or time permanence of kicker activation, is adjustable, in function of the size of the carton, through a rotative selector placed on front panel: the larger the carton, the longer the permanence. The shorter the carton the shorter the permanence. A second rotative selector, still on front panel, permits to compensate the Ejector or Kicker mechanical delay (mechanical response).

Shift memory The equipment is provided with an own memory card and a 3 digit electromechanic selector (on front panel) for the definition in cm of the ejection shift length. Maximum settable length: 999 cm. As the shift length is manually inputted, it is essential that operator makes sure, feeding a simulated wrong carton on the line, that this is the carton extracted or kicked (correct shift length) and not the one following or preceeding (wrong shift length).

Ejection or marking confirmation Receiving, from a control equipment, the signal of a wrong carton, the EDI "accompanies" this signal till the point of ejection or marking either set through the 3 digit selector. Memory of the control equipment (Code Guard, MMS-GD, EGC-C) or set through the 3 digit selector of the EDI when the control equipment has no memory (Glue Guard or Cello Guard). If, in the exact correspondence of this point, the EDI does not receive the signal, from the photocell placed on the ejector or kicker, that confirms that the carton has actually been ejected or kicked, it activates the immediate machine stop for missed wrong carton.
